Today is a day I really never expected would happen. On November 16, 2023, Apple officially confirmed that RCS texting is At the end Coming to iPhone in 2024.

Yes, you read that correctly. Apple will add RCS support to the iPhone “late next year.” In other words, if you have an Android phone and you’re texting someone from an iPhone, you’ll be able to text each other over RCS instead of SMS. This means you get many of the iMessage-like features like typing indicator, read receipts, high-resolution photo/video sharing, etc.

In a statement sent to 9to5Mac, an Apple spokesperson said the following:

“Late next year, we will add support for the RCS Universal Profile, which is the standard currently published by the GSM Association. We believe the RCS Universal Profile will provide a better interoperability experience than SMS or MMS. It will work with iMessage, which remains the best and most secure messaging experience for Apple users.
