Marvel is heading back to the multiverse just in time for the holidays what if…? Season 2. In a new trailer for the Disney+ series, Marvel revealed that a new episode of Season 2 will debut on December 22, 2023, spanning nine consecutive days.
The Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) tells what if…? and guides viewers through alternate realities where major events in the MCU happened differently. For example, what if Peggy Carter, not Steve Rogers, was the First Avenger? What if T’Challa becomes Star-Lord and not Black Panther? What if Thor was an only child? As The Watcher says in the trailer: “Things have changed a bit in the multiverse.”
Several live-action actors from the MCU reprise their roles what if…? To voice animated versions of their characters. Hayley Atwell as Peggy Carter, Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange, Chadwick Boseman as Star-Lord T’Challa, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Samuel L. Jackson, and Chris Hemsworth as Thor have all lent their voices. For what if…?
Season 2 will include more characters, including Karen Gillan’s Nebula, Jon Favreau’s Happy Hogan, and Cate Blanchett’s Hela. Characters to appear in future episodes of Season 2 shang chi A showdown against Odin, a team-up between Valkyrie and Iron Man, and Peggy facing off against the evil Hydra Stomper.
Marvel’s what if…? Created by AC Bradley, who also serves as an executive producer and head writer. Brian Andrews directs and executive produces the series.
All nine episodes of Season 1 are available to stream on Disney+. Season 2 will air for nine episodes from December 22 to December 30, 2023.
