The Ram brand is finally taking an electrified approach, and by reviving the RamCharger name, no less. Along with the new 2025 RAM 1500, the company has unveiled the new 2025 RAM 1500 RamCharger, a new plug-in hybrid that RAM bills as offering “unlimited battery electric range.”
The new truck is one of several electrified trucks, the most famous of which include the fully electric Ford F-150 Lightning and the new Chevrolet Silverado EV. But rather than being fully electric, the 1500 RamCharger is a plug-in hybrid, meaning it has an electric motor and battery, And A gas tank and engine.
This is probably a smart move. Electric trucks show a lot of promise – but they start to falter a bit when it comes to things like towing and hauling heavy loads. Keeping the 1500 RamCharger hybrid means that without a load or a light truck, the truck can get around town on electricity – and when necessary, it can turn on the engine to tow or haul. This could be the perfect combo for many truck owners who need that extra excitement at least occasionally, but who could still stand to save some cash – and go a little easier on the environment. – When just driving around town.
The approach to building trucks is quite innovative. Instead of switching directly between the electric motor and the gas-powered engine, the truck uses a generator to charge the batteries or supply power directly to the electric motors – meaning the truck can always provide instant electric zip. Is. Of course, this doesn’t have much of an impact on fuel consumption – or at least, no more than any other hybrid. But it affects the overall performance.
According to Ram, the new truck offers a 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack with an onboard 130kW generator, powering a 250kW front motor and a 238kW rear motor. It all adds up to a truck that can reach 60 mph in 4.4 seconds thanks to its 663-horsepower performance and 615 lb-ft of torque.
But while the truck itself is innovative, the marketing surrounding it is misleading. In an era where customers are trying to find ways to overcome range anxiety and are comparing vehicles based on their range and charging speed rather than their horsepower and fuel efficiency, a vehicle can be described as having “unlimited electric range.” Marketing it as an offering isn’t really fair, or pure. After all, the vehicle still needs to be charged or filled – and you certainly can’t drive it forever without filling the tank or charging the battery. Ram believes the truck offers up to 690 miles of range, which obviously includes the use of the generator.
so what about this Real Category? Well, unfortunately Ram does not specify what results the battery can produce on a single charge. It notes that customers will be able to add 50 miles of all-electric range in about 10 minutes at a maximum charging speed of 145kW. We also don’t know if it’s possible to use the truck in electric-only mode (although we assume you can).
Unfortunately, that’s not the only thing we don’t know about the truck yet. We also don’t know how much it will cost and when it will be available for purchase. Interested customers can reserve a place in line to preorder the truck.
Apart from the powertrain, we know some additional details about the truck. Based on the Ram images, it features a relatively modern interior, with a 14.5-inch infotainment display and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. It even has a 10.25-inch passenger screen, which will make the ride in the passenger seat a little more comfortable.
The truck offers a Klipsch audio system, composed of an impressive 23 tuned speakers mounted around the interior. It includes a 12-inch subwoofer and two one-inch titanium dome tweeters.
