This is your best look yet at the Samsung Galaxy S24 series

Renders of Galaxy S24 series leaked in purple color.

Just over a week ago, some alleged real-life shots of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra appeared online predicting a slightly refined look. Now, the folks at Windows Report have shared alleged product renders of the entire Galaxy S24 trio ahead of their rumored January 27 launch.

It looks like the hands-on photos of the Ultra trim that appeared on X (formerly Twitter) a few days ago were the real deal. Samsung hasn’t made any aesthetic changes to the top-tier model – the flat edges are here to stay, and there’s also the floating ring aesthetic for the camera lens on the back.

The only two main changes are a different material for the frame and some new colors. Buyers will have the option of a new yellow shade that was recently seen on the Samsung Store-exclusive variant of the Galaxy Z Flip foldable phone. Then there’s a new purple trim, which looks similar to the same shade on the Galaxy S23 FE, down to the contrasting metal frame polish.

Gray and black will be the other colors on the table. The biggest change is that Samsung, following in the footsteps of the iPhone 15 Pro, is reportedly using titanium for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. The regular and Plus variants will likely stick to armored aluminum and a glass back with Corning Gorilla Glass protection.

The rumored specification list is your typical flagship-level affair and includes Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, a 120Hz OLED display, 12GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery.

The report states that the vapor chamber cooling system inside the S24 Ultra will be almost twice as large as that of its predecessor, which was already in a league of its own. Buyers can expect the phone to remain cool during demanding tasks like gaming, high-resolution video capture, and generative AI-aligned tasks.

The camera hardware is also the same as this year’s Ultra phones, except for one interesting change in the zoom camera. Instead of the 10-megapixel periscope camera with an industry-leading 10x optical zoom output that we saw on the Galaxy S23 Ultra, the upcoming phone is said to have a 50-megapixel sensor, but with a lesser 5x optical zoom range.

It’s a strange compromise between megapixel count and range. What’s worth noting here is that Samsung has been particularly proud of the raw zoom capability of its top-tier Galaxy S phones since the introduction of the Galaxy S20 Ultra.

As far as the regular Galaxy S24 and its larger Plus variants are concerned, the look is very similar to their 2023 counterparts. However, I can’t help but notice that Samsung has somehow made them look more boxy, apparently due to the flattened edges and sharp edges. Color options will reportedly include black, grey, purple and yellow.

The entry-level model is said to offer a 6.2-inch 120Hz OLED screen, 4,000 mAh battery, 8GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of storage. The rear camera hardware is the familiar 50MP primary + 12MP ultrawide + 10MP telephoto array. The Plus trim will have a larger 6.7-inch screen and a 4,900mAh battery.

The strange situation here is related to the processor inside. It looks like Samsung’s Exynos chips are making a comeback, which doesn’t seem like good news based on its history of poor thermals and poor performance. Samsung will reportedly sell the Galaxy S24 and its Plus variant in two flavours, one with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and the other powered by the in-house Exynos 2400 chipset.

I’m curious to know if the promised AMD GPU upgrade will work some magic on the Exynos chip next year. At the moment, we don’t have any reliable information about the Samsung Galaxy S24 series in this regard, but considering Samsung’s history of leaks, it won’t be long before we get more information about the sticker price and availability in the market.
